Explanations for the collapse of economic and political infrastructures of the Aegean Bronze Age have for a long time debated the relative contribution of societies from the Balkans, Central Europe and Italy.

Over recent decades, a dearth of cross-border, regional scale studies of societal developments in the Balkans have limited our ability to test how changes in contemporary societies of this broad region may have related to each other. This paper explores how new social traditions of the Balkans may have related to transformations in the Aegean Bronze Age as the Mycenaean palatial collapse unfolded.
